My device

Well, today is my turn to talk, strangely, about my favorite technological device. Besides my computer, I think there is another device that's happen to be very useful in a very specific situation and place: the bathroom. I often charged it before I take a shower and every time I'm a little worried about it because of the moist. It can be full of fungus and it may be damaged because of them, I've to admit that I haven't clean it since I got it. Plus it vibrates very violently and if I'm not careful it would break into a thousand pieces; goodbye to the joy of shower and my artifact. In fact one time it dropped from the shelf and the start button got dented into the artifact and turned off. I was worried about it due to the hit, and buying another one was not at my reach because it's a little expensive, but I find a way to turn it on with a pair of tweezers right on the correct spot and it resurrected like a wet phoenix. Very strong cilindric device.

I would never change my speaker for anything in the world, not even for a bigger one.

Nujabes

For this post, I choose to talk about one of my favorite hip hop producers, Seba Jun, better known as Nujabes. His work during the late 90' and throughout the whole decade of the 2000 was very popular in the underground scene of the hip hop movement in USA, collaborating with many rappers at that time such as Substantial, Pase Rock, Cise Star, japanese Shing02 and the list goes on. He also is the author of the OST of the acclaimed anime Samurai Champloo.

Until his departure due to a car accident in 2010, he never stopped working on his music. Short after, a posthumous album was released by his friends with the music that was found in his cell phone.

I found out about Nujabes around 5 years ago from a friend that told me there was this low-key japanese producer who made very jazzy and melodic backbeats. From the very first track it got my complete attention. His sound is so nostalgic, like if you were looking back to a place that you've never been but you're going to miss. That's Nujabes.

Steve Coleman and Five Elements

I'm going to talk about the one and only concert I've been until now. It was two weeks ago in Teatro Oriente. With my brother and a friend, we went to see one the greatest musicians of jazz nowadays: Steve Coleman and Five Elements. Coleman is an afro-American saxophonist whose work is well recognized since the 90s, but he had never had a concert in south America being this the first time he ever played in the continent. Coleman was part of a movement called M-base, which is, explained by himself, "a way to think about the musical creativity". Adding to that expression: everything you hear in his concerts is rhythm, as he says.

I've heard many clips of his concerts on the internet and it always sounds so profound and dense that I've never finished any of them, but live is a very different experience. Everyone in the room were just grooving and going with the flow of the gift the band were giving us. It was overwhelming finally see them live and I hope i could see them again.

Japan through

Long ago I've wondering about travel to Japan, not only for it's beautiful nature and ancestral culture, but also I would like to study there. I'd like to be in touch with the surroundings that shaped such interesting and complex forms of traditions.

One of the biggest reasons that forces me to go is the music scene. There's music for every kind of taste. It's a complete different universe appart of the western world, with it's own vibes and unique style of blending their traditional music with many contemporary rythms. It is a distinct form of expression of our actual time, communicate though that universal language that is music, specially hip-hop and jazz.

Therefore, I would like to stay in Japan not just for a short period of time. So, a way to achieve this is getting a scolarship to study japanese, first studying the language right in your own country and then in it's origin, if you are lucky enough.

I'm really looking forward to it!
